Breast Augmentation
Surgical Breast Enlargement
Breast enlargement is a very common cosmetic procedure, which is applied to both enlarge or create symmetry of the breasts.
The majority of our patients, the main goal of this intervention is breast enlargement. It is very important for the intervention to produce the desired shape, firmness and a natural appearance of the breast.
Breast enlargement can be done through the transfer of fat fro, different parts of your body, or more frequently through the surgical placement of implants in the breast.
How to know if you are a candidate:
If you have been unhappy with the size of your breasts for many years, and wish to enlarge them.
You want to restore symmetry to your breasts
You have lost the natural shape of your breasts due to aging, weight loss or pregnancy.
You find it difficult to find appropriate clothing because your breasts are disproportionate in size to your body
You have already done a surgical enlargement intervention, and you wish to further enlarge or to decrease the size of your previous procedure
The candidates for this type of surgical intervention are women who generally wish to increase the size of their breasts, or those who have lost their natural shape and volume due to a variety of reasons (aging, pregnancy, or weight loss).
There are other candidates for this intervention and it encompasses women who are unsatisfied with their overall physical appearance. For example, a woman, that has smaller breasts but wider hips may want to enlarge her breasts.
Women that have asymmetrical breasts may wish to create a symmetrical appearance through the surgical intervention of breast enlargement. Other candidates include women who are generally dissatisfied with the overall development and appearance of their breasts
One important factor in deciding for the surgery is the age of the patient. Our doctors understand that many young women are not satisfied with the size of their breasts. However, we advise them to wait for their breasts to fully develop before opting to undergo breast enlargement surgery
How does surgical breast enhancement look like?
At Atlas General Hospital breast enhancement is considered a routine cosmetic procedure. The surgical procedure lasts an average of around 3 hours, and can be done through a variety of techniques:
Implants
Fat transfer
Aqua filing gel
The Implant method and the fat transfer from your body are both surgically implanted behind each breast. Implants are placed behind the muscle in the breast or behind the natural breast tissue.
The patient can choose between a rounded or and oval shaped implant. The implant material works to increase the size of your breasts, as well as to provide a fuller look in areas that may have previously been “empty.”
Implants are generally soft, flexible and usually made from silicone. The implant can be filled with either silicone or saline
The surgical procedure will most likely be done under local anesthesia, in which the patient won’t feel any kind of pain. It is crucial to follow the instructions provided by your surgeon in order to adequately prepare yourself for the procedure.
Depending on the size and type of implant that you have chosen, our team of doctors will decide what type of incision is most favorable. Every decision in regards to implant placement and incision location All decisions about the position of the cut and the implantation of the implant are taken by the doctor in agreement with you, after detailed consultations, and based on your physical predispositions and habits.
The surgeon will place the implants using one of three methods and incisions:
– Inframamally (Underneath the breast)
– Transaxillar (under the armpit)
– Periareolar (in the tissue around the nipple)
The surgeon will create a “pocket” where he will separate the breast tissue from the muscle. The implants will be placed inside these “pockets” and centered in the breast.
After the surgeon successfully preforms the procedure, he will stitch the incisions up, and cover them with surgical tape.
What are the risks and side effects of breast enhancement?
Breast enhancement may sometimes be accompanied by certain adverse effects such as:
Bleeding and Bruising
Chest Pain
Infection at the surgical site or around the implant location
Scar formations inside the breast
Rupture or leaking of the implant
Change in the feel of the chest (occurs temporarily after the surgery)
Skin folding over where the implant is placed, often underneath the breast.
Improper placing or movement of the implant
Fluid buildup and accumulation around the implant
Difficulty healing at the site of the incision
Fluid leaking out of the breast or at the site of incision.
Serious scars on the skin
Heavy night sweats
Therefore, women with breast implants should monitor their breasts and visit their doctor if any changes, new enlargements, swelling or pain occur.
In order for the surgery to proceed as comfortably as possible, and with minimal risk of possible complications it is advised to consult with an experienced team of experts such as the one at Atlas General Hospital. These consultations with experienced teams of surgeons are highly advocated and are the essential “Golden Rule” for all types of surgical interventions.
What to expect Post Procedure?
After the breast enhancement procedure, the surgeon will advise you to wear a bandage that presses your chest or a special bra for the necessary support during recovery. The discomfort and tenderness that you can feel for several days after the intervention is alleviated by the prescribed medication. After surgery, at least a week of recovery at home is advised. During this period, it is necessary to minimize movement, and avoid major hand movements. Before the operation is preformed, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions that are necessary to follow.
After the first several weeks, it is normal to experience some moderate swelling. As the healing process progresses the swelling will decrease, you will begin to see your new and improved breasts take form!
Most patients can return to their usual activities in a few days, but you may need up to a week to recover. If your work is more physically harder, it may make your healing process longer.
When it comes to exercise and physical activity, you will have to avoid anything that is hard for at least two to four weeks. After invasive surgery, you would want to avoid any blood pressure or pulse raising. In addition, too many movements will be very painful for your breasts.
Results are visible immediately after surgery. Swelling and sensitivity can make it difficult to estimate the final results.
All implants are made by world-renowned manufacturers and have a warranty. The results will be long-lasting, but it is important to note that it happens (very rarely) that patients come to surgery to replace their implants after years or decades.
After surgery, maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you smoke cigarettes, try to stop or at least reduce your cigarette consumption. Smoking can delay healing and prolong the recovery period
